One of the dumbest "arguments" made by skydivers was repeated again after one of them was killed doing a stunt in Arizona.
"You can die crossing the street."
The stupidity of that statement is astounding. The idiot is suggesting that it's the walking that kills you, or that stepping off the road and onto the sidewalk will break your bones. The only time the street crossing analogy works is when paratroopers are in a war zone, dropping through machine gun fire.
Cars kill people who cross the street, not the crossing itself. Other than heart attacks from exertion, no one would die from crossing the street if there were no cars, but people will continue to die from jumping out of airplanes. They're trying to absolve themselves of responsibility for getting hurt or killed while choosing to do something dangerous.
